Assignment Expectations:  The instructor will post a thought-provoking prompt on Courselink announcements for each of the assigned thought papers (e.g., this prompt may be a question, a case study or an example, or it may be an activity that you must complete). This prompt will be posted no less than two weeks before the due date of the thought paper. Based on this prompt you must generate an evidence-based response or perspective which will become the basis of your thought paper.  An evidence-based response will require all three of these elements:  • Your unique perspectives or insights developed from your educational and personal experiences, • Connection and integration of course and disciplinary content (i.e., human resources, management, organizational behavior), and  • Evidence from at least one relevant peer-reviewed, empirical journal article with study results that either support or challenge your positions.  You will use these elements to take a specific stance on the thought paper prompt and explain your position. Your thought paper will be assessed on the clarity and quality of your position, in particular the degree to which your position is evidenced and the accuracy of using that evidence. The explanation of your position should be clear and succinct. Additionally, you will need to provide a sufficient overview that justifies your evidence as credible and relevant (e.g., highlighting strengths of validity and reliability; affirming the methodology; illustrating clear connections; etc.). Clarity, integration of knowledge, and critical thinking are essential.  Each thought paper will also include an application section (suggested minimum: half a page in length) where you will generate a takeaway for management and human resource practitioners. This section must extend from your earlier responses to the prompt and be connected to the evidence you have used in your paper. For example, if you are taking the position in your thought paper that the best leaders are high in conscientiousness, the application section could be about how organizations should use a specific personality measure as part of their selection process and what that could look like in practice.  The more specific and detailed you can be in connecting the evidence to your application with explanations, the better. Students may opt to focus on a single application/recommendation in great depth, or you can include a few applications at a moderate level of depth. Surface level listings of practical applications with justification and explanation is insufficient. Written Requirements: Assignments should be no longer than 3 pages in length, double-spaced. Any assignment submitted outside of these requirements will be penalized 5%, and no content written after 3 pages will be evaluated.  The format of these assignments is 12-point, Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins, with page numbers in the top right corner, and APA format (7th edition). Headings and sub-headings for clarity are allowed, but be mindful of how much space this takes up. Assignments must include a title page with the student name, student number, course code, date, and a creative title. A reference page should also be included in APA format. The title page and reference page do not count towards page totals. Any appendices, tables, diagrams, pictures, or figures will not count towards the page totals, but should be included at the end of the document, not imbedded within the document. You should not copy and paste the thought paper prompt into your document as that will take up valuable space that should be used for your insights.  Given that this is a critical reflection, personal pronouns are allowed to ensure clarity of ideas and distinguish your ideas from the material you are citing from other sources. Although this paper is seeking your insights, this is still an academic paper and will be assessed based on academic quality. In-text citations will be necessary to avoid plagiarism; however, students should limit using direct quotations in their thought papers due to the limited length of response available to them.  Thought papers should be written for your instructor and teaching assistants as the audience. Avoid the use of jargon, overly complex language, or acronyms unless you have previously defined this information to your readership. You are expected to utilize course concepts, including theories, phenomenon, research findings, sources, and other scholarly information to substantiate any claims made in your paper. I will be giving you a Powerpoint of the class lectures which contain information on what this class revolves around so you have a better idea of what to write about. I have also included the Thought paper’s propmt that you will be writing about and relating it to the topics learned in class. A document of the outline and rubric of this assignment is also included.
