Discussion and Reply- “Black lives matter” movement

1. Revisit learning block 1-2 to consider your previous thoughts on the study of history and reflect on how your thinking on history has evolved. Finally, respond to the following question:

Now that you are coming to the end of this course, has your perception of history evolved since module one? Why or why not?

2. Niccolò Machiavelli once stated, “Wise men say, and not without reason, that whoever wishes to foresee the future must consult the past; for human events ever resemble those of preceding times.” With this quote in mind and reflecting on your research this term consider this question:

Choose a contemporary issue and describe how your perception of that issue could have changed based on your research of your topic?

In response to peers, explain whether or not you share your peer’s perception of the selected contemporary issue. Why or why not?

I feel that my perspective on how history can impact our thoughts and actions in everyday life has changed. The importance of having background information on cultural or social differences can be the factor in how our world evolves; it could even be the difference between life and death in some cases.

I also learned that where the information comes from can impact what response the reader may have, and what information they pass along to others. A contemporary issue that brought a different view into perspective after taking into consideration the past, would be the “Black lives matter” movement. After taking in the fact of racial segregation and social injustices brought upon the black communities, in and outside the US, I can understand how those events of the past still bleed into how the black communities are treated today and what environments they are stuck in because of the past injustices.
