Persuasive Essay Topic: Is it beneficial to learn a foreign language? Write a 400-500 word persuasive essay using the outline below in which you argue the benefits of learning a foreign language OR the disadvantages of learning a foreign language. After studying the document “¿Por qué estudiar otra lengua?” do your own research as well. I suggest that you find at least 5 reliable sources to use in your paper. After gathering ideas and reading about each side of the issue, make a pro and con sheet to help you plan your essay before you start writing it. Jot down supporting evidence from the articles that you have gathered and your own opinions to support each pro and con. Then decide whether you are pro or anti learning a foreign language. Pick your three strongest ideas to support your argument. Don’t forget to choose a counter argument as well, and be ready to refute it. In addition, remember to include a visual which will support one of your reasons. It should be explained IN your paper and used as evidence to support at least one of your reasons. Since you are using the textbook and the articles as your sources you will need to cite them in a works cited page. Each time that you take a piece of information from the book that is not yours you need to cite it. After the idea used, please include the first author’s name and the page number from which the information was taken as such: (Marinelli 122) or (Marinelli 123). If you are citing information from the articles, you will need to cite it as well by writing the author’s name in parenthesis after any cited information. If no author is available, use cite the information using the title of the article in parenthesis. 3.)
