Some reading references is a website, I can give you the links:
For everyone, but especially those focusing on increased competition in product markets and the shift to the shareholder value model
Kalleberg, Chapter 2 ( the last one of reading reference)
First, my lecture on changing work was actually based on 2 chapters from the Kalleberg book, but you only had one chapter assigned. I’m providing the other chapter as an attachment. This will be especially helpful for folks looking at increased competition in product markets and the shift to the shareholder value model, though everyone may find it useful. The relevant material is on pages 24-30.
For students focusing on Diversity:
Statistics Canada Report “Canadian Demographics at a Glance” Second Edition
Second, I know several students are interested in addressing increasing diversity and while we covered gender and work last week we actually won’t cover race and immigration until next week. This means that students wishing to address racial/ethnic diversity have very little to draw from. This resource will help. It’s a report from Statistics Canada on changing demographics. There are 2 important ideas covered in the report 1) the population and size of the workforce in Canada has grown tremendously since the 1970s and 2) much of that growth has been fueled by immigration of people who are considered visible minorities in the Canadian context. The result is increasing diversity in the Canadian workforce. The report is on the longer side but the most relevant information is on pg 4 (overall population growth), pg 28 (on immigration broadly), pgs 34-35 (on immigration and diversity), and pg 47 (on the change in the laborforce).
You can access the report here: https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/91-003-x/91-003-x2014001-eng.pdf
And because reports are notoriously tricky to cite, here is a citation you can use in your reference lists if you choose to use the report.
